Holidays garbage pickup not affected

If this seems like a repeat of a post made just before Thanksgiving, it is.

Each time we come up on a holiday, the We-Know-Things Team at The Terrace Times is asked if the City of Troy's trash/recycling pickup schedule will be affected.

As we head toward Christmas on Thursday and New Year's Day the following Thursday, the answer is, no, they will not be affected.

While city residents who normally have Thursday pickup will be affected, those of us residing on the Terrace will not because the regular schedule will resume after the holidays, so you can put out your garbage cans and recycling bins with confidence on Thursday nights for Friday morning pickup.

And, as we've reminded Terrace folk innumerable times over the years, the City asks that the trash receptacles not be put outside until at least 7 p.m. on Thursdays because -- well, who wants to look at your garbage cans all day? So, be courteous to your neighbors.

Luncheon contributions help the needy

More than 100 items contributed by attendees of our annual Terrace Holiday Luncheon will help make the winter a bit warmer for many people.

The luncheon at McGreivey's Restaurant earlier this week was attended by more than two dozen Terrace residents. It was arranged by Janise Dessingue with the assistance of Anne Hunter and Janet Fowler, and was the usual enjoyable social event. However, we always like to make an impact on the giving side of things as well.

So, as has been the case for several years, the Sidewalk Warriors of Troy organization was the recipient of our gifts. They included:

  • 77 pairs of gloves
  • 10 pairs of handwarmers
  • 10 pairs of socks
  • 8 hats

A thank-you note to the Terrace community from Sidewalk Warriors President Robin Fontanelli reads:

"Thank you for your generous donation of hats and gloves. ... Donations like yours are vital to our success. Please know many people will be warm this winter because of your donations.

"With generosity like yours we can continue to support our friends in need and we sincerely thank you."
