In search of THCA Board candidates

To my Terrace neighbors:

This weekend, I sent a note to our Nominating Committee members -- Sid Legg, Joan Richardson, and Paula Fox-Murphy -- concerning the selection of THCA Board members that will take place at our annual meeting this fall. As a result, you may be hearing from one or all of them as they seek to carry out their duties. The text of the note:

Your panel's bi-annual chore -- creating a slate of candidates for the Terrace at Highpointe Community Association (THCA) Board -- is coming up this year when all current board members' terms expire.

I'm copying those current members on this email, but to avoid any potential conflict of interest about their wishes and status, I'm not asking them directly as board president if they wish to stand for reelection. That will be up to you committee members.

While we don't need a slate of candidates until the fall, I thought it best to remind you early in the year to provide enough lead time for you to exercise due diligence in finding (a) which current members wish to stand for reelection, and (b) which other THCA residents may wish to stand for election. We can hold a secret ballot at our annual meeting to select people.

Per our bylaws, homeowners vote for people to be Board members, then at an organizational meeting the incoming Board elects specific officers from among those individuals. Thus, the membership at large does not specifically pick the president, VPs, etc.

The current Board has been together for quite some time, but we have had significant turnover among residents in that period and we may have other people not previously part of the THCA who wish to step up for the opportunity to serve the community. Given that, I'll send out an email to all residents to let them know we want to be sure to canvass the neighborhood so that all voices are heard.

As always, thank you for your service to the Terrace community. While your committee's work isn't required often, it is critical to the continued success of a self-governed -- and therefore a responsive and financially affordable -- homeowners association.
