Golf course closes for winter, but Frear Park remains open

Troy's Frear Park golf course has closed for the winter months after a season in which it hosted more than 35 charity golf tournaments, 25 full-season men’s, women’s, and senior leagues, and thousands of individual rounds.

However, that doesn't mean that the park itself is closed. As noted in an announcement from City Hall, it "encourages residents and visitors to continue enjoying Frear Park’s all-year-round recreation opportunities, including sleigh riding, snowshoeing, trail hiking, fishing, and cross-country skiing. "

In the upcoming new year, the City has a number of major improvements planned for the park such as "enhancing accessibility, recreation, and beautification across the entire property."  Planned upgrades include:

• New accessible playground and resurfacing at North Lake Park.
• New playground equipment.
• Landscaping and beautification at the lower park near the ice rink.
• Construction of new tennis and pickleball courts adjacent to the temporary restaurant site.
• Work on building a new, permanent restaurant.
